The Illinois Socialist Party has now been officially formed and chartered after our statewide convention in Springfield on April 15th.
After months of talks, increases in membership, the formation of the Socialist Party of Greater Springfield Area, and acceptance by the National Action Committee, Illinois has a statewide socialist party. The convention, where comrades from around the state and some observers joined us, solidified the Illinois Socialist Party as an entity, hashing out our bylaws, plans of action and campaigns. The Illinois Socialist Party joins other SP State parties such as California, New Jersey and Michigan in statewide representation as a party. No longer will members from outside Chicago and Greater Springfield Area be left as at-large members, we are now one state party. Thusly, as a state party, issues to be dealt with will focus on Illinois as a whole as well as small local areas. There is much more work to be done in the coming months, however, here are some pictures of our convention.
